They arrived in Markland in November 1875.  Two daughters were born there in 1877 and 1879.  The family is on the 1881 Nova Scotia census.  Later in 1881, they sold their lot to William Keith, who lived on the property, and moved to Marshall, Minnesota.

They arrived in Markland in October 1875.  A daughter and son were born there, in 1875 and 1877.  The family is on the 1881 Nova Scotia census.  In July 1881, they deeded their lot to David Higgins and moved to Hallson, North Dakota.  Helga Erlendsdóttir is the sister of Guðbrandur.  She arrived in Markland in October 1875.  A daughter, Jónína, whose father stayed in Iceland, was born at the end of October.  Helga and her daughter are not on the 1881 census for Nova Scotia.

By May 1875, they were in Nova Scotia.  They arrived in Markland in August 1875.  Two sons were born  there, in 1875 and 1878. (Brynjólfur Sigurðsson, born in September 1875, was the first Icelandic child to be born in Nova Scotia.)  They are on the 1881 census for Nova Scotia.  They moved to Hallson in 1881 and later, to Mountain, North Dakota

In May of 1875, they were in Nova Scotia.  They arrived in Markland in October 1875. His wife and daughter died soon after their arrival. (His daughter of measles).  Stefán then formed a relationship with his foster daughter Valgerður Kristjansdóttir.  He sold his lot in August 1881 and left for North Dakota.

A third daughter was born in Washago, Ontario, in July 1874.  They arrived in Markland in November 1875.  A son was born there, in 1879.  By 1881, all except the two oldest daughters appeared on the census for Nova Scotia.   In 1881, the family moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba.
A water mill was built between this lot and the next.

Likely Magnús' son.  He arrived in Markland in October 1875, and worked as a miner and appears on the 1881 census for Nova Scotia.  He apparently ended up in North Dakota.

Brynjólfur Brynjólfsson his wife, six children and mother Skeggstaðir in Húnavatnssýsla Kinmount Ontario St. Patrick 1874
He was the brother to Magnús, above, and to the wife of Sigurður Jónsson on "Staðartunga", above.  Brynjólfur and his wife Þorunn moved to Nova Scotia in May 1875 and arrived in Markland in August 1875.  They are on the 1881 census for Nova Scotia. Later in 1881, they moved to Manitoba and in 1882 to Mountain, North Dakota.  This distinguished family gave early leadership to the St. Patrick passengers and the Markland settlement.  One son, Skafti,  was the first Icelandic-American senator (1891-93).  Another, Björn,  was the chairman of the North Dakota Democratic Committee. A third son, Magnús,  was the North Dakota  State's Attorney from 1898-1910.

They first settled in Kinmount, Ontario, where a son was born.  In May of 1875, they were working in Washago, Ontario.  They moved to Nova Scotia later that year, arriving in Markland in August 1875.  A son was born in there in 1879.  They appear on the 1881 census for Nova Scotia. Likely, they moved to Duluth, Minnesota in 1881.

They settled initially in Kinmount, Ontario, where two children died.  By May 1875, they were in Nova Scotia and arrived in Markland in October 1875, where a daughter died of measles.  A daughter, Ingibjörg, was born in 1878. They appear on the 1881 census of Nova Scotia with two surviving children.  They reconveyed lot 13 back to the Crown in May 1882, sold lot 17 to John Smith in May 1882 and moved to Winnipeg.  They were among the last four families to leave Nova Scotia .

They settled first in Kinmount, Ontario.  In May 1875 they were working in Millbrook, Ontario and left for Nova Scotia soon after.  They apparently lived in Lockeport until October 1877, when they arrived in Markland.  A young son (Árni) does not appear on the 1878 census and likely died in Nova Scotia before their arrival in Markland.  Jóhann Bjarnason died in Markland in 1879, shortly after completing a beautiful house.  The family returned to Lockeport in September 1880, where son Þórvaldur (Walter) worked as a shoemaker.  They are in the 1881 census for Nova Scotia in Lockeport.  The family successfully petitioned for a crown grant for lot 16 in September 1881 and then the lot was sold in April 1882.  The widow and her son Guðvarður and, perhaps, Þórvaldur left for Winnipeg around this time.   In 1885, Guðvarður was in the 90th Winnipeg Rifles during the Northwest Rebellion.

They settled in Kinmount, Ontario.  By March 1875 they were working in Millbrook, Ontario.  They moved to Nova Scotia in July 1875, and took land in Markland in November 1875.  They spent the winter in Lockeport, where Una was born.  In 1876, they began to farm their Markland property, where Jón was born in 1878.  Petur's mother-in-law, Mária Rognvaldsdóttir who left Gardakot in Skagafjarðarsýsla joined them in November 1877.  Petur left for Winnipeg in 1880, having deeded the Markland property to Olöf.  Son Jón, born in Markland, does not appear on the 1881 census for Nova Scotia.  Una, born in Lockeport, is renamed Annie and is fostered with Einar Jónsson on "Fljótsbrekka".  An older son, Rognvaldur, is renamed Walter and fostered with Petur Hansen on "Hjarðarholt".  Olöf petitioned for a Crown Grant in May 1881, then left Nova Scotia for North Dakota in October 1881, a few months after Peter Hillman left Winnipeg for North Dakota.  Petur married and took land near Cavalier N.D. while Olöf married and settled near Mountain N.D.

They settled initially in Kinmount, Ontario.  In November 1874, Jón Jónsson joined four other men to explore settlement opportunities in Nova Scotia, after spending the winter in Halifax.  Jón arrived in Markland in October 1875.  His father, Jón Rognvaldsson (Hillman), who had arrived from Ontario, joined him.  On October 11, 1879, Jón Jónsson married his neighbour Jóhanna Hafsteinsdóttir from "Fljótshlið" (lot 8).  They had a daughter in 1880.  They appear on the 1881 Nova Scotia census where Jóhanna Hafsteinsdóttir is known as H. Ellen Hillman. In May 1882, Jón Jónsson with his family and father moved to North Dakota. They were among the last four families to leave Markland.

They settled in Kinmount, Ontario.  It is possible that his mother, Jóhanna Jósefsdóttir, is one of two elderly women to die in Kinmount, as her arrival in Markland is not mentioned and she does not appear on the 1878 Nova Scotia census.  In May 1875, Hafsteinn and his foster daughter, Hallfriður Minerva Magnúsdóttir, were in Nova Scotia and his daughter was in Lutterworth Township, Ontario.  They all arrived in Markland in October 1875, when Hafsteinn’s wife, Sigriður Þórkels[berg]dóttir, who had just arrived from Savarland, Skagafjarðarsýsla on an unnamed ship, joined them.  In 1879, their daughter married Jón Hillman from the neighbouring farm.  They are in the 1881 census for Nova Scotia.  In May 1882, they moved to North Dakota.  Their foster daughter moved to Elfros, Sask.  They were among the last four families to leave Markland.

Jóhannes Guðmundsson sailed on the Corinthian out of Glasgow, arriving in Quebec on 17 August 1874 with his wife and four children.  They arrived in Markland, likely from Ontario, in October 1875.  A daughter was born  there in 1876 and a son in 1878. A teen-aged daughter died in Markland in 1881.  This family does not appear on the 1881 Nova Scotia census and may have left for Winnipeg by then.

He arrived in Markland in October 1875, where his wife Vigdis Emilia Þórkelsdóttir joined him with their daughter Þuriður Holmfriður Jónsdóttir. They had arrived from Nes in S-Þingeyjarsýsla in 1874 aboard the St. Patrick and settled for a time in Ontario.  A daughter and son were born in Markland, in 1877 and 1881.  The Markland farm was sold to Isaac Prest in August 1881 and they left for Winnipeg.

He settled in Kinmount, Ontario.  In the spring of 1875 he was on land in Lutterworth Township.  Soon after, he left for Nova Scotia and arrived in Markland in October 1875.  In 1876, his wife Halla Jónsdóttir and their three adult children, who left Laxarbakki in Hnappadalssýsla for Halifax, aboard the Verona, joined him.  They appear on the 1881 census for Nova Scotia with five-year-old Annie (likely Una Petursdóttir Hillman from "Laufskógar").  In August 1881 the Markland property was sold and the family moved to Winnipeg.

Robb, a businessman, left Reykjavik in 1878 with his wife, three children and a domestic, Margret Árnadóttir.  They arrived in Markland in Sept. 1878, where H. C. Robb built a fine house and yard on or near the land belonging to Guðmundur Laxdal (lot 8),  where he opened a store. He soon realized that this was not the proper spot for an elderly merchant and sold his business to Erlendur Höskuldsson, who arrived in 1879. The Robbs moved to Halifax, then to Tangier in Nova Scotia, and finally to New York.

They arrived in Quebec City on 1 August 1878.  Later boarded the Waldensian and reached Markland (via Halifax) in August 1878.  His wife was the sister to Björn Walterson from "Fragrahlið".  Two sons were born in Markland, in 1878 and 1879.  Brynjólfur, born in 1878, died.   Brynjólfur's sister, Vilborg Gunnlaugsdóttir from Þórgrimsstaðir in S-Mulasýsla, left in 1878 on the Osborne also and is with this family in Markland.  This property was next to that of Sigfus Bjarnason, and is said to be located on the "next height west of the school property".  In 1881, all the family, except Vilborg, is in the Nova Scotia census. Likely in 1881, this family moved to Winnipeg and later to Argyle, Manitoba.

Ólafur Þórsteinsson, was a blacksmith.  He spent the winter in Lockeport.  In 1878, his wife, five children, sister, niece and nephew left from the same place aboard the Cumbrae.  They all arrived in Markland in August 1878.  It is indicated that his property was east towards the Tangier River, east of the schoolhouse.  He was a prosperous man who built a fine house.  The family appears on the 1881 census for Nova Scotia. In August 1881, Ólafur Þórsteinsson's petition for a Crown Grant was granted and this family moved to Pembina, North Dakota.   Their niece, Sigriður Þórsteinsson,(?) married Porter Taylor from a local family and raised a family in Chaswood, Nova Scotia.

Einar Einarsson, who left in 1878 from Hvoll in Dyrholahreppur aboard the Cumbrae, also joined this household. They arrived in Markland in August 1878. His property was adjacent to "Árnes" (lot 18). Halldor built an exceptionally fine house. Einar Einarsson and Sesselja Grimsdóttir do not appear on the 1881 census for Nova Scotia. The Halldorsson family moved to Winnipeg and in 1884, to Gardar, North Dakota.

He lived in Lockeport until 1878, when his future wife who left Hvitarvellir in Borgarfjarðarsýsla in 1878 aboard the Cumbrae with their son joined him.  They arrived in Markland in August 1878 and were married on 13 October 1879 at the home of Ólafur Þórsteinsson.  They had a daughter in Markland, in 1879.  This property was east towards the Tangier River.  Ólafur does not appear on the 1881 census for Nova Scotia, although his wife and children do.  Likely in 1881, they moved to Winnipeg.

Jóhann's wife was Valgerður Guðmundsdóttir (or Fridriksdóttir, according to the Markland survey).  Also with this household was Jón Gunnarsson, who left in 1878 from Kjarni in Eyjafjarðarsýsla aboard the Osborne with his wife Palina Jónsdóttir. These couples are in Markland in August 1878, but they are not on the 1881 census for Nova Scotia.  Both moved to Winnipeg.

Guðmundur and his wife first settled in Kinmount, Ontario, where their child died.  In the spring of 1875, they were employed near Lindsay, Ontario.  The family moved to Lockeport in Nova Scotia in 1876.  In 1878, they arrived in Markland.  This property was adjacent to that of Petur Hillman (lot 10).  They do not appear on the 1881 Nova Scotia census. Around 1881, they moved to Milwaukee.

They settled first in Lockeport.  In 1878 they moved to Markland, near "Baldurshagi".  They are in the 1881 Nova Scotia census where the wife, Guðlaug Jónsdóttir, was known as Laura Hansen and they were caring for young Rognvaldur Petursson, named Walter Hillman, and the elderly Mária Rognvaldsdóttir, known as Catherine Mary, from "Laufskógar".  Likely in 1881, they moved to Winnipeg, and then Hallson, North Dakota.

 Jón is the father-in-law of Petur Hansen, above.  He settled initially in Kinmount, Ontario.  In the spring of 1875 he was employed in Millbrook, Ontario.  He went to Lockeport, Nova Scotia, that year and in 1878 arrived in Markland.  Also in Lockeport for a time was his daughter Jónína, who cannot be identified precisely from outgoing ship lists.  In 1879, Jón Ivarsson took as his common-law-wife Helga Magnúsdóttir, who arrived in 1879 from Ormarsstaður in N-Mulasýsla.  He took property on the shores of the Tangier River, immediately east of Johann Bjarnason (lot 16).  They appear on the 1881 Nova Scotia census, where Jón Ivarsson is known as John Irving and Helga Magnúsdóttir is known as Helga Jónsson.  Likely in 1881, they moved to Winnipeg.
